De Wieden, De Olde Maten: these are beautiful nature reserves in the Kop van Overijssel. You will also pass through beautiful old villages, such as Hasselt.
Hanseatic city of Hasselt
In this water-rich region you will see many marinas, such as in Blauwe Hand and Belt-Schutsloot. Zwartsluis is located at the point where the Zwarte Water and the Meppelerdiep meet. The beautiful village was once the transit port for the transport of Drenthe peat to Holland. Further on you drive past the Olde Maten, another beautiful humid nature reserve.
The Wieden
In the Wieden you can fully enjoy the reed fields and swamp forests. And of course the silence. However pristine this area may look, it has been shaped by peat extraction over the centuries. You cross to Jonen on a ferry, after which you drive through the picturesque Dwarsgracht.
