Kempen Forestry
In Boswachterij de Kempen, on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium and largely managed by Staatsbosbeheer, civilization is far away. Cycle paths lead past fields and through endless forests. Where the coniferous forests give way, there is a large, silent heath with drifting sand and swamps. A beautiful green border region with a rich history. The former Goorloop swamp area has beautiful floodplains that are flooded every year by the Goorloop river. Napoleon left his mark on the Cartier Heath and the forests were the territory of smugglers for centuries.
