Gemert-Bakel, North Brabant, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 665322
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This route takes you through the beautiful nature around Gemert. You cycle through forests, along stream valleys and farmlands. You also visit the historic centre of Gemert itself.
Free Lordship
From here you can drive straight into the countryside. What is immediately noticeable here is the peace. A wonderful region to recharge the proverbial battery. From the thirteenth century this area belonged to the Vrije Heerlijckheid Gemert - it is certainly wonderful cycling here! It is really enjoyable here with all those country roads.
Gemert Castle
Gemert Castle originally dates from 1391, the current main building dates from 1740. Until 1794, this building was used by the lords of the Vrije Heerlijckheid. In that same year, the French occupier ended the status of this Heerlijkheid. Small hamlets such as Tereyken and Hoogen-Aarle accompany you back to the beginning. Further on lies one of the most beautiful nature reserves of the Peel: De Stippelberg. This was once a large heathland, now mainly pine trees grow there. Enjoy!
