Cycling through the border area of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen

The route starts in Koewacht, one of the border villages in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. You will soon cycle through the forests and rugged grasslands along the border. On the Fortdijk you pass four former forts that were built by the Spanish in 1636 to protect the region against State troops. You can also enjoy the cultural history in the old town of Sas van Gent. At the Grote Markt in Zelzate you can view the statue of Mietje Stroel (\\\'The girl who peed where her hair fit\\\'). In 1976, the official engagement party between Mietje and, yes, Manneken Pis was held in Brussels. You drive back to Koewacht via the centuries-old Heidebos and the cozy Moerbeke.
