Cycle from Markelo to the Sallandse Heuvelrug

This route introduces you to the many natural beauties in Overijssel. From Markelo you set course for the forests of the De Borkeld nature reserve. Further on you enter De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. This is one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in all of Overijssel and you will notice that: it is wonderfully quiet here! You cycle past deciduous and coniferous trees, and from the higher parts you have beautiful views. The heathland on the Holterberg is one of the few places in the Netherlands where grouse can be found. Then you drive through Holten and the picturesque surroundings of the Beuseberg, a 34 meter high hill. You drive back to Markelo through the Twente scenic landscape. Here you can take a look at the Martinus Church. And enjoy a cozy terrace at Grand Cafe De Kroon.
