Cycle from Markelo to the Sallandse Heuvelrug

This route introduces you to the many natural beauties in Overijssel. From Markelo you head for the forests of the De Borkeld nature reserve. Further on you enter the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. This is one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the whole of Overijssel and you will notice that: it is wonderfully quiet here! You cycle past deciduous and coniferous trees, from the higher parts you have beautiful views. The heathland on the Holterberg is one of the few places in the Netherlands where black grouse can be found. Then you cycle through Holten and the picturesque surroundings of the Beuseberg, a 34-metre-high hill. Through the Twente coulisselandschap you cycle back to Markelo. Here you can take a look at the Martinuskerk. And have a nice drink on a terrace at Grand Cafe De Kroon.
