Through the dunes from Schagen to Schoorl

The landscape here consists of polder areas. Schoorl is hidden behind the highest and widest dunes in the Netherlands. From here you cycle through the dunes towards the beach and on to the Groetermolen, an octagonal mill from 1890 between Groet and Petten. This mill was used until 1977 to drain the 220 hectares of Groeterpolder. A little further on is the octagonal Harger mill. This mill dates from 1804. The Hargerpolder and the Pettemerpolder are still partly drained by this mill, but then on a voluntary basis. On the coast near Petten you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea. Take a moment to watch the waves roll onto the beach, wonderfully soothing.
