Description
The Belgian Kalmthout is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves. This route takes you through the extensive border park De Zoom-Kalmthoutse Heide.
Kalmthoutse Heide
The route starts at the Belgian nature reserve Domain Noordheuvel. You cycle through deciduous trees here, most of them are more than 120 years old! You drive through the rural area to the Kalmthoutse Heide. On the vast plain you can fully enjoy the peace and beautiful views. You will also see some tranquil fens, step off for a moment to take in the beauty of these gems.
Small Shooting Field
Past Huijbergen you cycle into the extensive forests on the Brabantse Wal. You drive through the border village of Putte, after which you cycle into the woods again in Belgium. Kapellenbos is a green neighborhood where you can spot many villas and country houses. Further on you will pass the Klein Schietveld. Shooting exercises were held here from 1820 to 1894, and now there is a barracks surrounded by unspoilt nature. From the saddle you look out over flower-filled fields.
