Zierikzee is a cozy and beautiful town. A good opportunity to put on your hiking boots for a beautiful walk.
Bird watching area
You start the route near the bird watching area Cauwers Inlaag. This 12-hectare inlay is located about one kilometer west of Zierikzee and was created in 1726 by the construction of the current inlaagdijk. At the end of the last century, the inlay was cleaned up: sludge was dredged out and the remaining central islands were merged into one whole. Stop for a while, because during the breeding season you can see different types of birds here.
Monument City
It is not without reason that Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape. There are no less than 568 monuments, so take the time for this city walk to taste the unique historical atmosphere here. The city obtained its wealth not only through fishing, but also through trade and industry. Already in the Middle Ages it was a large walled city with six gates. The Zuidhavenpoort is one of them: it served to protect the southern harbor entrance.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
