Description
On Schouwen-Duiveland you can enjoy Zeeland vistas and cultural history. You cycle through vast polders and along the banks of the Grevelingenmeer and the Oosterschelde. Ideal for a breath of fresh air.
Grevelingenmeer
The route starts at the Grevelingenmeer. After the closure of the Grevelingen in 1971, new land was created. A number of sandbanks were permanently dried up and along the edges of the Grevelingen the salt marshes and a large part of the mudflats became dry. The Slikken van Flakkee and the Slikken van Bommenede are examples of this. Nature has free rein here. Due to the unique location and the many flood zones with salt water, special plants survive in these areas. Some areas are closed to the public due to the vulnerability of the special plants and/or breeding birds that occur there.

Fortified town of Zierikzee
A pleasant, but certainly also beautiful town. Since 1971 Zierikzee has been a protected cityscape. There are no less than 568 monuments, so take plenty of time to experience the unique historical atmosphere here. The most famous building is the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren from 1506, it looks exactly like the Sint-Romboutstoren in Mechelen.

Molen't Hert is the oldest mill on your route, it was built in 1748. On top of this mill is a weather vane in the shape of a deer.
