Walking through nature at Prinsenbeek

From Brasserie Boschdal you set off through the outskirts of Prinsenbeek. First you walk on leafy roads along meadows and fields. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for a relaxed chat with your fellow hikers. From the Polderweg you look to the right of the path at Weimeren, a strip of land where peat was still extracted until the Second World War. Now it is a bird-rich nature reserve with pristine grasslands, swamps and ponds. Just past junction 61 you walk on an unpaved path along the Mark. This river has its origin in the Turnhout fen area. At Standdbuiten, the Mark changes into the Dintel, after which the river flows into the Oosterschelde via the Volkerak. Back at Boschdal it's time for a nice lunch.
