Beerse is surrounded by various nature reserves and Belgian towns that form a varied cycling backdrop. This route takes you through Turnhout, Merksplas, Beerse and all the green areas in between. Get on your bike and hit the road.

From Beerse you immediately head to Merksplas, a small town near the Dutch border. Around Merksplas you will find lush forests, fields, meadows and farming hamlets. You cycle further through this rural area to Turnhout. Are you ready for a break? Then take a look at one of the museums you will find in Turnhout, such as the Playing Card Museum. Printed playing cards originally come from this city and that is why Turnhout is also called the 'city of playing cards'. Then you sit down on a cozy terrace for a snack and a drink. Then you can get on your bike again full of energy for the second part of your tour.
Historic forests
You then cycle through the Grotenhoutbos and the Eksterheide to eventually arrive back in Beerse. The Grotenhoutbos is one of the older forests in the Antwerp Kempen. Until the end of the 17th century, this forest was very popular as a hunting place for the Dukes of Brabant.
The Magpie Heath
On the Eksterheide you can then marvel at the variety of water birds that like to perch on the lakes in this area. Three different viewing huts have been constructed here with beautiful views over the water. Stop here for a moment and watch the birds in all their glory without disturbing them.
