Description
This beautiful route offers you plenty of variety. Forest, heathland, old peat polders and the Loosdrechtse Plassen: it looks like the Netherlands in miniature. You will also take in quite a few historical sights.
Hoorneboegse Heide
You initially drive through the Laagte van Pijnenburg. The soil here is moister and richer than on the higher parts of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, so there is more natural variation. In the adjacent De Zuid you mainly cycle between fragrant pine trees. Further on you drive across the Hoorneboegse Heide. What a beautiful area!
Loosdrechtse Plassen
At the Loosdrechtse Plassen you drive through a picturesque, vast and watery landscape. In Oud-Loosdrecht you can still see many monumental farms and houses on the dike. The kilometers also pass automatically in the polder. You pass the eighteenth-century Persijn Estate where a monumental country house adorns the surroundings. Prins Hendriksoord is a country house from the nineteenth century, Pijnenburg from two hundred years older. De Hooge Vuursche Castle dates from 1912.
