From Westerbork you drive to Zwiggelte, located in the beautiful ash and stream valley landscape where there are still a few Saxon farms. Then you continue to Klatering. There is a stopping place just before Beilen at the Milieustraat.
Beilen is located between the A28 and the N 381 and several waterways, such as the Beilervaart, Drentsche Hoofdvaart and Linthorst Homankanaal. You arrive at the Manege stamp post. You then cross the A28 highway. Just over the viaduct is the dog dressage center on the left. Then the route continues past a large fish pond, the Brunstingerplas. Past the ash hamlet of Brunsting you enter a nature reserve with heathland and ponds.
Continue along the road to Lheebroek where you will find the Meisterhof campsite. The meaning of Lheebroek is swampy land and together with Lhee it forms a mark.
The route continues past the TV tower to Hoogersmilde where the El-Nino restaurant and stamp post is located. Here is also "the Gateway to Friesland", the Drenthe-Frisian forest with forest, heath, drifting sand and stream valley grasslands and is one of the most important nature reserves in Europe. After this experience you will arrive in Diever via Oude Willem. Every summer, a Shakespeare play is performed there in the open-air theater.
Then on to the Dwingelderveld. The peat bogs and vast plains, forests and heathlands are characteristic of the landscape.
You continue the route through the forest to the information center, after which the A28 is crossed towards Spier and Wijster. A part around Wijster is called the Zandbergen, where sand used to be extracted which was used, among other things, to decorate the floors. The Hilbrands laboratory (for crops) is located just before Wijster.
After this you cycle via Holthe to the Scharreveld, a nature reserve that is being restored to become a large heathland. Both flora and fauna flourish here. The frogs and toads, the heather sheep and the Scottish highlanders have a very natural environment here.
Another tunnel under the N381 and then past the riding school to the finish in Westerbork where you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the terraces.
