Breda is the largest Nassau city in the Netherlands, a connection that dates back to 1403! This walking route takes you past some sights that bear witness to this history.
Big church
In addition to beautiful buildings, you immediately see the Grote Kerk, the construction of which started in 1410. This church still contains the graves of several Nassaus, including the mausoleum of Engelbrecht II of Nassau.
Breda Castle
Further afield is Breda Castle, which originally dates from 1353. Where the Nassaus once lived, the Royal Military Academy is now located. In Valkenberg city park (where the Nassaus had their falcons hunt), it is wonderful to walk among the beautiful trees. Further on you walk past the recently beautiful rebuilt NS Station and through the Brabant Park, a green neighborhood. In the cozy Ginnekenstraat you pass the St. Joost Chapel on the right: it originally dates from 1436!
