Zeeuws-Vlaanderen makes your cyclist's heart beat faster. You will find plenty of peace, space and characteristic villages.
Polders of Ossenisse
You will soon be driving along the Western Scheldt. You can enjoy the view over the water from the dike. On the right is the old polder landscape of Ossenisse. The polders here date from the Middle Ages, special! There are many fruit orchards, and you also pass through characteristic hamlets such as Zeedorp and Knuitershoek.
Big Island
In Lamswaarde you will see St. Cornelius, a church from 1873. A little further on you will pass Vogelzicht, a polder mill from 1865. On the Meerdijk you will pass Huis Lettenburg, a monumental country estate. Further on you cycle past the private nature reserve Groot Eiland, a freshwater swamp surrounded by creeks. Some of these creeks are remnants of the Hellegat, a former estuary that once extended to the port of Hulst. How wonderfully peaceful it is here in the polders!
