Description

Along the Frisian Lakes you can enjoy historical villages and views over the water. This route takes you along the Tjeukemeer and the Sneekermeer.

Storm surge
The first few kilometres you cycle along the banks of the Tjeukemeer, the largest Frisian inland lake. Here you can enjoy the views over the water and the peace. According to tradition, the water swallowed the church and the cemetery of Rohel during a storm surge.

Frisian bell tower
Along the 7 kilometre long Scharsterrijn you drive from the Tjeukemeer to the Langweerderwielen. Further on you make a round along the Sneekermeer. In Goingarijp you can admire the church building from 1770. In the belfry next to it hangs a bell from 1527. In Sint-Nicolaasga you pass a Catholic church from 1887, which is rare in this region. A final sight is the former Gemaal van Echten, a monument from 1913.
