Brasschaat's nickname
The starting point of this route is on the edge of Brasschaat. 'Kapittelmakers' is the nickname of the inhabitants of this place and that immediately explains the name of this route. Brasschaat was once a poor hamlet that belonged to Ekeren. At the time, the residents of Brasschaat gathered branches. They chopped those branches into small pieces and sold them as firewood and logwood to the wealthier population of Ekeren. This is how the inhabitants of Brasschaat got their name. Cycle through the park landscape and green areas around Brasschaat and enjoy the nature around you. Between Brasschaat and Maria-ter-Heide you cycle through the beautiful De Inslag Domain Forest.

After cycling for more than 30 kilometers you will arrive at the Oud Antwerpen farm. Settle down on the quiet veranda and enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. You will find delicious seasonal dishes on the menu. Now that's a lot of fun!

You then cycle back to the starting point of this route, south of Brasschaat. Close to this place you will find the municipal park of Brasschaat, a park of 147 hectares. This park was created in the 18th century as a garden of the nearby castle. The park has not always been open to the public, but nowadays you can stroll around.
