Rhenen, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 630617
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This walking route takes you from the village of Achterberg near Rhenen through the countryside. A region where you can enjoy the varied natural beauty and cultural history.
Flowery meadows
From the village you can walk into the countryside with its ditches, small wooded banks and flowery meadows. You will immediately experience a refreshing tranquility here. Ideal for charging the battery. You can already see the Laarsenberg from afar.
Castle Heimerstein
To prevent the arable land on the Laarsenberg from being washed away, dense hedges have been planted across the slopes: so-called grafts. A special feature, because otherwise you will only find these grafts in Limburg. You walk along wide avenues through old coniferous and deciduous forests to Heimerstein Castle. The original castle was completely destroyed during the Battle of the Grebbeberg in 1940. The castle was rebuilt in 1946, albeit not in the old style.
