Utrechtse Heuvelrug
You will soon pass Fort Voordorp, built to defend the Utrecht-Amersfoort railway line. You cycle through De Bilt and Bilthoven, two picturesque villages. Then you cycle into the extensive and varied forests on the gently sloping Utrechtse Heuvelrug. You can enjoy nature, country houses and silence for many kilometers here.
Fort Rijnauwen
The path through the woods is briefly interrupted by Lage Vuursche, where you will see some beautiful eighteenth- and nineteenth-century houses. The beautiful Stulp Church originally dates from 1659. Further on is Hooge Vuursche Castle: a beautiful country house from 1912. Just past Zeist you cycle down the ridge. You pass Fort Rijnauwen, with 32 hectares the largest fortress in the New Dutch Waterline. The fort was built at the end of the nineteenth century and is now a nature reserve.
