Looking for the mini Saint Peter

In Northwest Brabant you will not find forests, but a landscape of creeks, waterways and vast polders. Very different from the rest of the province. You will make special discoveries, from the Markdal to a very special basilica.

Sedge
From your starting point at Fijnaart you first set course towards Stampersgat. Just before the village you cross the river Mark, which meanders beautifully. Via Oud-Gastel you drive to Zegge. In the area you can see a striking remnant from the time when this area was cultivated for agriculture: almost all roads and canals are straight and run from west to east. The main street of the village is perpendicular to these roads.

Basilica
You cycle past the Heimolen, a flour mill from 1844, to Bosschenhoofd. Get off here for a drink at Café Eeterij Stroop, a cozy café with a nice terrace. In Oudenbosch, a little further on, the imposing Basilica of Saints Agatha and Barbara immediately catches your eye. This building dates from 1880, it is a (smaller) copy of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. You cycle back to your starting point along the Mark.
