A beautiful route along the water to the nice fishing village of Yerseke. Here you can learn more about the Oosterschelde and fishing. Culture and nature, variety guaranteed!
Oosterschelde
You start near the Zuid-Beveland Canal. It cuts Zuid Beveland in half at its narrowest part and connects the Oosterschelde with the Western Scheldt. This canal, built in 1866, was once busy with traffic, but now you can enjoy the peace and quiet. You walk along the Oosterschelde to Yerseke, with a panoramic view over the water. The Oosterschelde is a National Park, there are numerous bird species to see.
Beautiful Yerseke
You arrive at the harbor, where you can enjoy delicious fresh fish at Zee-eterij De Viskêête. The fishing village of Yerseke is best known for the mussels and oysters that are caught in the Oosterschelde - you can learn all about the history of Yerseke and its fishing in the Oosterschelde Museum, located in the former town hall (1914). Then you continue walking through beautiful Yerseke, where you can still clearly see the historic ring core.
