A nice walk through Urk

Urk is easy to explore on foot. This route takes you through the historic center and along the Toppad Urk nature reserve.

Zuiderzee Island
Urk is a former island in the Zuiderzee. The fishing village has a long cultural history, and thanks to the many beautiful old buildings, Urk enjoys a protected village view. A lovely place to walk through and soak up the unique atmosphere.

White Sand Plain
On the south side of Urk you walk along the Toppad Urk: a bird-rich nature reserve that consists of a mosaic of open water, reed land, swamp forests and wet grasslands. The people of Urk themselves call it 'the white sand plain'. The core of this area is a remnant of the Tail of the former island of Urk. Walking along this natural beauty you can recharge your battery and catch up with your fellow hikers.
