Description
Urk is a former island in the Zuiderzee. The fishing village has a long, unique cultural history, and it is best discovered on foot.
Urk Lighthouse
You will pass beautiful sights, such as the Old Town Hall from 1903. The Bethel Church dates from 1867, in the facade there are three stones that tell the history of the church. Further on you will pass the Urk Lighthouse from 1845. A little later you will look out over the IJsselmeer from the dike.
Urkerbos
You walk a bit through the Urkerbos, a varied forest that is particularly rich in mushrooms. It's nice to walk through here. You walk through the characteristic Urk to the Urkervaart. The Toppad Urk is located on this canal: a bird-rich nature reserve that consists of a mosaic of open water, reed land and wet grasslands. The people of Urk themselves call it 'the white sand plain'.
