Spijkenisse is located in a privileged location: you can cycle straight into the beautiful rural outskirts of Voorne-Putten. Mills, dikes, water, beautiful old towns: it is wonderful to get a breath of fresh air here.

Oud-Beijerland
Your route starts at Carlton Oasis Hotel in Spijkenisse, the largest town on the South Holland island of Voorne-Putten. You quickly leave the city behind you when you get on your bike and ride into the rural countryside. You drive through Zuid-Beijerland, Nieuw-Beijerland and Oud-Beijerland: all three named after Sabina van Beieren. She was the wife of Lamoraal van Egmont, who founded Oud-Beijerland in the 16th century. You will see many monumental buildings there.

The Spui
You cycle over winding dikes, past vast polders and creeks, past old mills such as Landzigt and Windlust. You follow the Spui for a long way, a tidal river that was created by a storm surge in 1532. Cycling along the dike you can enjoy the peace and the wind in your hair. You drive back to Spijkenisse via Hekelingen, one of the oldest villages on Putten. The beautiful polder area borders the city here, special!
