Wuustwezel is a charming Belgian village in the Antwerp Kempen. With this walk you will discover some historical sights and the natural beauty around Wuustwezel.
Small Brook
From the starting point you walk straight into the Uilenbos, a small-scale forest area where Corsican pines and deciduous trees grow. When you walk out of the forest, you will see a pond on the right that was created by sand extraction. Further on you walk along the untouched heath of the Groot Schietveld: a military training ground, so inaccessible. A little later you walk along the Kleine Beek. Pollard willows and ash trees grow on the bank. What a beautiful spot!
Hens Castle
As you walk along a path with monumental old oaks, you pass an old castle gate on the left. It is the former entrance to Ginhoven Castle, a building that was destroyed by a V-bomb during the Second World War. In the countryside you can still see some beautiful old farms. At the municipal park you pass the Hens Castle, built in neo-Flemish Gothic style in 1910. Further on is the village church, which originally dates from 1257, but was renovated around 1900.
