Brecht, Flanders, Belgium
Cycling route: 623479
Provided by: Noordertuin van Antwerpen
The Northern Garden of Antwerp is a beautiful region around Brasschaat, Brecht and Wuustwezel. You will find unique nature reserves and historical sights here.
Small Shooting Range
The route starts just below Wuustwezel, the friendly village you will cycle through shortly afterwards. You will then cycle through a rural area of fields, grasslands, beautiful old farms and wayside chapels. The Klein Schietveld is an unspoilt nature reserve that is partly accessible. This former shooting range was created in 1820 when Belgium was part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. After the shooting range was closed in 1894, a military camp was built.
The Impact
Further on you drive between two Brasschaat parks. On your right is De Inslag, an old estate. De Mik is a former arboretum. Both parks still have beautiful old trees. On a largely car-free road you drive along the Antwerp-Turnhout canal through Sint-Job-in-\\\'t-Goor. After a few kilometres the houses make way for the forests that belong to the Brechtse Heide. You pass through Brecht, a village worth seeing with cosy terraces. Time for a pint!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
