In Kalmthout you can walk the Willy Vandersteenpad. This route introduces you to the idyllic places where the spiritual father of Suske and Wiske liked to stay. You will also pass his home and Studio Vandersteen.

Withoef Heath
You start this route at the station of Heide-Kalmthout. This monumental building dates from 1911. You soon pass the picturesque Sint-Jozefkerk from 1937. A little later you walk a bit through the Withoefse Heide, a wonderfully quiet nature reserve. In the Augustijnsdreef you will find old villas and a synagogue that still reminds of the Jewish families who lived here between the two world wars.

Comics Museum
At node 4 you will see the Provincial Suske en Wiske Children's Museum (guided tours are by appointment!). Vandersteen lived here until his death in 1990. Studio Vandersteen is located on the top floor of this building, where Suske en Wiske albums are still drawn. Further on you walk along the Sjaeneven through the accessible part of Het Klein Schietveld. Vandersteen regularly enjoyed the peace and quiet in this nature reserve. At the end point you will see a statue of Suske en Wiske.
