The Brechtse Heide may be less known than the Kalmthoutse Heide, but it is just as beautiful. Put on your walking shoes and come discover the natural beauty for yourself with this beautiful walk.
Brechtse Heide
The Brechtse Heide is a very extensive area that enjoys landscape protection. You walk on sandy paths through forest, heathland and agricultural fields. This gently sloping nature reserve is known for its desolation and tranquility! Ideal to recharge the battery. Along the fields you see cow parsley and ground elder. There are also typical field birds such as partridge, pheasant and short-eared owl. From a distance you can see the complex of Our Lady of Nazareth Abbey.
De Poppelaer
At junction 47 you enter the Poppelaer, a small-scale but beautiful forest area. On hot days you will find welcome relief under the canopy. From junction 6 you will see the Kooldries on the right. This nature reserve was created from the remains of hand-dug clay pits. The clay was used by the local brick factories. Further on you walk along the Kempisch Canal, which was dug in the nineteenth century.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
