Diepenheim
From your starting point at the Achterhoek hamlet of Gelselaar, you will soon cycle to Museum farm Erve Brooks. At this sixteenth-century farm from 1538, you will find a shop with gifts and wooden toys. At Diepenheim, you will pass Kasteel Huis te Diepenheim, the oldest castle in the region. It was built in 1648 by Berent Bentinck. The 180-hectare estate is freely accessible. Note the beautiful castle gate with the coat of arms of the Bentinck family.
Nijenhuis Castle
Nijenhuis Castle, on the other side of Diepenheim, was first mentioned in 1457. The buildings are privately owned, but the estate of almost 200 hectares is open to the public. So it is worth taking a short walk; the garden and park were laid out in 1888 to a design by Hugo Poortman. End your day with a nice dinner on the beautiful terrace of Café Restaurant Florijn. You have a beautiful view!
