Along flower dikes and windmills to Nisse

A beautiful route through the Zak van Zuid-Beveland, known for its beautiful flower dikes. In this old cultural landscape you can enjoy the small villages and windmills. Take some time along the way to browse around in the nice Nisse.

Reused mill
Soon you will pass a beautiful windmill; Hope and Expectation. This mill was built on site by the town carpenter/mill maker Jacobus Huijsman after the post mill had blown over in a storm on February 27, 1714. He used parts of the old mill for this: so easy, of course.

Flower dikes
You cycle along the Western Scheldt to Ellewoutsdijk. Many wild flowers grow on the dikes around polders and former tidal creeks: the flower dikes, which you can see most beautifully from a bicycle. You will also see many creeks, remnants of old dike breaches. In Hoedekenskerke a little further you can see another mill: the Koutermolen from 1847. Nisse is one of the most beautiful villages in South Beveland, especially the fifteenth-century church is a picture. Be sure to get off and look around!
