The Kromme Rijn region is a true cycling gem. You drive through a vast polder landscape full of fruit orchards. This area is also rich in cultural history, you will find many country houses.
Sterkenburg Castle
From the forests you descend to the Kromme Rijn region: a vast polder area where you will find a lot of heritage. Such as Sterkenburg Castle and Beverweerd, a country house from 1850. There are also beautiful old villages here, such as Werkhoven, which enjoys a protected village view. The Sint Stevenskerk originally dates from 1100, wow!
Roman watchtower
At Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin you can enjoy a delicious stopover with a lunch or coffee and cake. Further on you pass through Tull and't Waal, a charming small village where you can admire the Reformed Church from 1778. You pass Fort't Hemeltje from 1881. Just past junction 98 you pass Fort Vechten, the second largest fort in the New Dutch Waterline. There is also a replica of a Roman watchtower here.
