Description
The Kromme Rijnstreek is a true cycling gem. You drive through a wide polder landscape full of fruit orchards. This area is also rich in cultural history, you will find many country houses.
Castle Sterkenburg
From the woods you descend to the Kromme Rijnstreek: a vast polder area where you will find a lot of heritage. Such as Kasteel Sterkenburg and Beverweerd, a country house from 1850. There are also beautiful old villages here, such as Werkhoven, which enjoys a protected village view. The Sint Stevenskerk originally dates from 1100, wow!
Roman watchtower
At Eethuis Ster in de Kersentuin you can enjoy a delicious stopover with lunch or coffee and cake. Further on you pass through Tull and't Waal, a charming little village where you can admire the Reformed Church from 1778, among other things. You pass Fort't Hemeltje from 1881. Just past junction 98 you pass Fort Vechten, the second largest fort in the New Dutch Waterline. Here is also a replica of a Roman watchtower.
