Description
Hijken is a picturesque esdorp in Drenthe where you can still experience the atmosphere of times gone by. In the area you can enjoy cycling through various nature reserves.
Orange
At the edge of the heath you can step off and enjoy the view. Further on you will pass through Oranje, a village where you will see the former, striking potato starch factory of Avebe.
Hijker sand
The route also leads you past three heaths that were once part of the Hijkerveld. First you pass the Zuid Hijkerzand, further on is the Tienveen. Be careful if you get off here to view a special plant: adders live here. The Dijkjesveen is also worth getting off. You will experience something typically Drenthe here: a wonderfully invigorating rest!
