Walking through Voornes Dune

Voornes Duin is one of the most species-rich dune areas in Western Europe. On foot you can enjoy all this natural beauty on Voorne-Putten.

Tenellaplas
The route starts at Restaurant Paviljoen De Meidoorn, in the middle of the Voornes Duin nature reserve. A beautiful place to have a drink and a bite to eat before you set off. You walk a bit along the Tenellaplas, which was dug in 1949 as a nature restoration project. A native garden was created in the visitor centre using the sand that was released. Here you will find all the biotopes from Voornes Duin. There is also tar pimpernel, or anagallis tenella: the lake's namesake.

The Biberbunker
The path then leads you through forest and dunes to a lookout point on a dune top. Here you have a beautiful panorama of the Slikken van Voorne. Further on you pass De Biberbunker which was used by the German air force as a radar command post during the Second World War. From here actions were taken to intercept allied bombers on their way to Germany. Through the woods you walk back to De Meidoorn, how wonderfully quiet it is here!
