Walking through Wallsteijn and Oude Buisse Heide

From Achtmaal you can take a nice long walk through the natural Brabant countryside. You will also pass Wallsteijn and Oude Buisse Heide, two estates.

Roland Holst
The route starts just outside the village of Achtmaal. You make the first meters in the rural area, where you see fields, meadows and tree nurseries. After a while you walk into the woods of the Oude Buisse Heide Estate. Just past junction 25 you walk past a tea dome that was previously widely used by the artist couple Roland Holst. Further on you suddenly find yourself at the edge of the Buisse Heide and a fen. What a beautiful spot!

Wallsteijn estate
The route leads you to the Wallsteijn Estate. You can take a pit stop here on the cozy terrace of't Pannehûske. Don't linger too long, there are still beautiful kilometers waiting for you through a mosaic of coniferous forests, hedgerows and stately beech avenues where the ladies of rank used to be able to walk in the shade. This way they kept their white complexion, a status symbol. The neoclassical country house was built around 1810.
