Walking through Wallsteijn and Oude Buisse Heide

From Achtmaal you can take a nice long walk through the natural Brabant countryside. You will also pass Wallsteijn and Oude Buisse Heide, two estates.

Roland Holst
The route starts just outside the village of Achtmaal. The first meters you make in the rural area, you see fields, meadows and tree nurseries. After a while you walk into the forests of Landgoed de Oude Buisse Heide. Just past junction 25 you walk past a tea house that was used a lot by the artist couple Roland Holst. Further on you suddenly find yourself at the edge of the Buisse Heide and a fen. What a beautiful spot!

Wallsteijn Estate
The route takes you to Landgoed Wallsteijn. You can take a pit stop here on the cozy terrace of't Pannehûske. Don't linger too long, there are still beautiful kilometers waiting for you through a mosaic of coniferous forests, hedgerows and stately beech avenues where the ladies of standing used to be able to walk in the shade. That way they kept their white complexion, a status symbol. The neoclassical country house was built around 1810.
