Walking in the countryside of Breda

Just above Breda you can take a beautiful varied walk. This route takes you through the Vrachelse Heide and the Lage Vuchtpolder. You will also pass the Spinolaschans.

Vrachelse Heide
You will soon walk onto the Vrachelse Heide. This nature reserve mainly consists of coniferous forest. It is a wonderfully peaceful walk here, a great opportunity to recharge the proverbial battery. When you walk out of the woods, you pass some characteristic Kempen long-facade farms with Flemish barns.

Lage Vuchtpolder
The Lage Vuchtpolder consists mainly of wet, flowery meadows. You will see moisture-loving plants and meadow birds such as black-tailed godwits and redshanks. During the Eighty Years' War, this polder was part of the Breda defense lines. It could be flooded to make life difficult for the enemy. The Spinolaschans is part of this history. This unique heritage was created in 1637 by Frederik Hendrik. He expanded a fortress previously built by Spinola in 1625.
