Oosterhout, North Brabant, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 613915
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Discover the 'other' Brabant with its wide polder landscape. This route takes you through Drimmelen, Lage Zwaluwe and Den Hout: beautiful villages with a long history. You also cycle along the Amer.
Brabant village
The route starts at the edge of Oosterhout. In the hamlet of Vrachelen you will see the Holy Oak along the road: a striking summer oak that was planted around 1750. According to tradition, a hermit would have lived in the hollowed-out tree trunk. A little later you cycle through the beautiful Den Hout, an atypical esdorp that enjoys protected village view.
Spinolaschans
The further you cycle towards the Amer, the more expansive the landscape becomes. In this part of North Brabant, the soil consists of silted sea clay. You won't find large forests, but you will find natural beauty, for example when you cycle along the banks of the Amer. Here lies the beautiful old village of Drimmelen. Lage Zwaluwe is also worth a visit, the Kerkstraat still breathes the atmosphere of times gone by. The Spinolaschans from 1637 is the last historical sight on this beautiful route.
