You cycle out of Leiden along the course of the Oude Rijn. You pass De Put, a flour mill that originally dates from 1619. Further on is the Heesterboom, a saw mill from 1804. Just outside Leiden you cycle along the shore of the Valkenburgse Meer, where you can visit the Industrial Narrow Gauge Museum. Just before junction 47 you drive through the nationally protected face of Wassenaar. You will see some beautiful buildings here, and you will also pass the twelfth-century village church. You drive through the polders to Rijnsburg, after which you explore charming Oegstgeest. You drive back to the heart of Leiden along the Haarlemmertrekvaart. As you cycle along the canal, you will pass, among other things, the National Museum of Ethnology. After getting off, enjoy a drink and snack at Catwalk Koffie & Lunch.
