Fancy a brisk walk with a good dash of history? From the pleasant tourist town of Castricum you can take this beautiful walk to the Marquette estate. Back in Castricum, you can discover the region's archaeological past in the House of Hilde.
Estate Marquette
A wonderful long walk through the rural area between Castricum and Heemskerk. You will discover the Marquette estate along the way. The current castle was built on the foundations of a thirteenth-century fortress. When the nearby Slot Assumburg became empty from 1867, the paneling and utensils were transferred to Kasteel Marquette. During the Second World War, the castle was used by the occupiers as a weather station.
Archaeological Museum
Just before the end of the route you will come to the edge of Castricum along the House of Hilde, a museum about the archeology and history of settlement of North Holland. You come face to face with human figures from the past, such as Hilde from Castricum. Skeletons from the soil of North Holland were provided with faces using forensic techniques, very special.
