Cycling along dunes and spheres

A beautiful meander through the dunes, passing an abbey and a windmill. Along the banks of the Limmergat, you'll drive to Limmen, the heart of the flower bulb region. What a change!

Dunes
Soon you'll enter the vast North Holland dune region. It's wonderful to cycle for miles among the conifers and dunes. What a tranquil experience! Further on, in Egmond-Binnen, you'll pass St. Adelbert's Abbey, the oldest in the Netherlands. The original tenth-century building was destroyed in 1573 on the orders of William of Orange. A new abbey wasn't built until 1935.

Flower bulbs
A little later, you'll see the Noordermolen (Northern Mill) in the polder, which drained the Groot-Limmerpolder. It was probably built in 1589, after the Spanish destroyed its predecessor during the Siege of Alkmaar in 1573. Along the Limmergat, you'll cycle to Limmen, the center of bulb growing in this area. The colorful fields are a picture-perfect sight from your bike; high in the saddle, you'll have the best view!
