Castricum Fort Route and the North Sea Canal

Your cycling route starts at Bike Totaal Kruijswijk Tweewielers. You drive straight through Castricum to Uitgeest. At the Uitgeestermeer you will pass the Tweede Broekermolen, a windmill built in 1631, on the Lagendijk. It is one of the five mills that drained the Uitgeester and Heemskerkerbroekpolder. You also cycle past three forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam, such as the Fort on Sint-Aagtendijk. Fort bij Krommeniedijk can be visited, as can Fort aan den Ham, which houses a museum. At the North Sea Canal the landscape is suddenly very different. For the construction of the canal, an entire dune area was excavated by hand. In IJmuiden you cross the water with a ferry, who knows what kind of large ships you will see up close!
