Description
The North Holland Dune Reserve is a real must. For example, discover the oldest nature reserve here, Landgoed Bakkum. But also outside the reserve there is special nature to see, in former agricultural area like Zeerijdtsdijkje.
North Holland Dune Reserve
At the nice old village of Bakkum you walk through the former Bakkum Estate, from which the North Holland Dune Reserve was created in about a hundred years. You will find a beautiful dune lake with the appropriate name Meertje van Vogelenzang - many birds can be found here, such as the kingfisher and bittern. If you want to know more about this area, visit the Visitor Center De Hoep, the route passes right by.
Sea-drift dike
Bakkum has been a popular holiday destination for Amsterdammers for over a hundred years, but it is also beautiful outside the summer. Seek out some peace and quiet in special nature reserves such as Zeerijdtsdijkje, just off the beaten track. This former agricultural area is now a poor grassland with wet and dry areas, where plants such as marsh marigold, marsh orchid and cuckoo flower can be seen.
