Touring through the Achterhoek, with a nice trip to the centuries-old Bingerden Estate along the way. The gardens here are beautiful!
Hail cross
In the countryside it is wonderful to travel for miles through a landscape of fields, meadows, hedgerows and small forests. In Kilder, just before junction 44, you will pass a monumental hail cross: an old Catholic custom to ward off evil spirits so that crops are not damaged by hail. In Didam you can see the beautiful village church from the fifteenth century.
Bingerden estate
At Giesbeek you drive past the Lathumse Plas and the Valeplas, two recreational lakes. Further on you will pass the Bingerden Estate, which is worth a visit. Its history goes back to the tenth century. In April 1945 the house was set on fire by retreating German troops, but it was rebuilt (on a smaller scale). The gardens in particular are very beautiful.
