From Castricum aan Zee you can make a wonderfully varied trip. You cycle through the North Holland Dune Reserve, through the bulb fields around Limmen and along the Alkmaarder & Uitgeestermeer.
North Holland Dune Reserve
Enter the North Holland Dune Reserve: one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands! You can buy your entrance ticket at one of the entrances with pin, credit card or with your smartphone (see www.pwn.nl). On the edge of Beverwijk you drive past Park Westerhout, an estate that originally dates from 1726.
Defense Line of Amsterdam
You will cycle past two fortresses from the Defense Line of Amsterdam that were built in 1903. Fort aan den Ham houses a museum that is open regularly. Fort at Krommeniedijk can also be visited. Further on is the Woudaap: a beautiful polder mill from 1651. A little later you have beautiful views from the dike over the rippling Alkmaarder & Uitgeestermeer. Limmen is the center of bulb cultivation in this region: you cycle through a colorful landscape!
