Description
Between Castricum and the North Sea coast, you can take a walk through the North Holland Dune Reserve: a beautiful nature reserve. At the end of your trip you can put your feet in the North Sea for some cooling.
Job creation project
During the first part you mainly walk between the fragrant pines. They were planted in the 1930s as a job creation project, after dune reclamation for agriculture had failed.
The Hoop
On Zeeweg you will pass visitor center De Hoep. You can visit various exhibitions here and find information about the water treatment in this nature reserve. Then you walk a bit over the old Estate Bakkum from which the North Holland Dune Reserve was created in about a hundred years. Here you will see straight avenues and Scots pines that were planted around 1860.
