From Blitterswijck you can take a beautiful walk along both sides of the Limburg Maas. Along the way you will pass some nice sights, such as a castle ruin.
Blitterswijck Castle
The route starts at Cycling and Walking Café De Zwart. You can first enjoy a coffee with Limburg pie on the terrace. Then you walk to the ferry that takes you across the Maas. Just before the crossing you can enjoy a meal at Veerhuys Tante Jet. On the other side you can walk a bit through the forests of the Maasduinen National Park. A wonderfully quiet path, ideal for recharging the proverbial battery.
Blitterswijck Castle
It is also quiet along the Maas bank. You will find beautiful spots to look out over the rippling water and the flowery floodplains. Diagonally opposite the Protestant church is the driveway of the disappeared Blitterswijck Castle. At the end of 1944, this castle was completely destroyed by the Germans, even though it was not used by soldiers. The remains were used to restore the old church of Blitterswijck, whose tower was blown up (also by the German occupiers).
NB; the ferry only operates in the high season. Check the sailing times in advance.
