Walking around Blitterswijck

The route starts at Cycling and Walking Café De Zwart. On the terrace you can first have a coffee with Limburg pie, while looking at the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity. It dates from the fifteenth century, after the Second World War the church had to be restored. From the village you walk into the grasslands and fruit orchards along the Maas. A little later you walk along the Galgenberg, a forest plot of conifers and deciduous trees that lies on an old river dune. You pass a forest and a water feature that are part of 't Sohr, a new nature reserve that consists of a former arm of the Maas. You pass De Gun, a former castle that made way for a stately farm in 1860. The forests of Hooge Heide are also located on an old river dune. How wonderfully peaceful it is here!
