Walking through the Groote Peel from rural Ospel

A beautiful walk through the rural outskirts of Ospel to De Groote Peel National Park. Club paths lead you over the damp parts. Birds, rare dragonflies - there's a lot to see here!

Bird watching
After a cup of coffee at De Dorpsherberg in Ospel you set off. Keep this address in mind for when you return, because you can also enjoy a delicious meal here! De Groote Peel National Park sounds like a large nature reserve, but it is a raised bog of only 1400 hectares. Hundreds of birds live here, such as the black-necked grebe, nightjar and bittern. So bring binoculars. And even if you don't see them, you certainly hear them!

Rare butterflies
Nice wooden paths lead you through the humid area, past typical raised bog plants such as peat moss, sundew and lavender heather. It looks like real primeval nature, but the waters here were created by large-scale peat extraction. Now those fens are a home to rare butterflies and dragonflies. Be sure to climb the observation tower, this small nature reserve suddenly seems enormous! Small country roads then lead you back to your starting point.
