Spending the day in the Achterhoek

The route starts at Wijngaard and Uutbloas stop Hofstee De Vennebulten, a special spot in the Achterhoek. Get on your bike and immediately ride into the characteristic Achterhoek landscape of meandering streams, hedgerows and small-scale forests. You see beautiful authentic Saxon farms everywhere. Just below Winterswijk you cycle through the Bekendelle, a beautiful old forest where mainly alder, ash and oak grow. Winterswijk is a surprisingly beautiful town, you will see many monumental buildings there. You will pass, among others, the Jacobuskerk from 1869. In the countryside you will drive through Tussender, a church village that was built on a moraine and is therefore significantly higher than the surrounding area. Here is the Vier Winden, a flour mill built in 1958. Just before getting off you pass Hermien, a beautiful flour mill from 1819.
