Dwingelderveld National Park is a gem in the already beautiful Drenthe. This route takes you across the heath and through the forests of this nature reserve. You will also pass through characteristic towns such as Dwingeloo.
Pesse's canoe
The first kilometers you drive through a varied landscape of fields, grasslands and smaller forests. You regularly see beautiful Saxon farms. You will pass through Pesse, where the oldest boat in the world was excavated in 1955: The Canoe of Pesse is estimated to date from 8000 BC.
Picturesque Dwingeloo
Get off on the heath of the Dwingelderveld and experience how wonderful it is to be in one of the quietest places in the Netherlands. At the edge of the heath you cycle into the fresh-smelling forests of this nature reserve. The village green of Dwingeloo still exudes the atmosphere of times gone by, including the fifteenth-century St. Nicholas Church with its striking tower. A little further on you will pass the former manor of Westrup. What a beautiful village!
