Want to stretch your legs with a walk? Then take this walk through the Jantjesplaat in the Biesbosch. Don't forget your waterproof shoes and binoculars!
Jantjesplaat
The Biesbosch is one of the few freshwater areas in the world where there is ebb and flow. This nature reserve can also be explored on foot! The route runs right through the newest nature that the Biesbosch has to offer: the Jantjesplaat. The former agricultural polder was transformed in 2013 into an extensive wetland with willow flood forest and drowned polder land. You will see many birds here, with a bit of luck even the osprey and sea eagle that sometimes hunt here.
Spiring lock
You also walk through a rough willow forest that grows on an extra-dike growth of land. In this swampy area you have beautiful views over the water of the river Nieuwe Merwede. At the end of your walk you can admire the old Spieringsluis. In 2000 this lock was the first in the Netherlands to receive lock gates made of fibre-reinforced plastic.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
