Want to stretch your legs with a walk? Then walk this walk through the Jantjesplaat in the Biesbosch. Don't forget your waterproof shoes and binoculars!
Jantjesplate
The Biesbosch is one of the few freshwater areas in the world where there is an ebb and flow. This nature reserve can also be explored on foot! The route runs right through the newest nature that the Biesbosch has to offer: the Jantjesplaat. The former agricultural polder was transformed in 2013 into a vast wetland with tidal willow forest and drowned polder land. You will see many birds here, with a bit of luck even the osprey and white-tailed eagle that sometimes hunt here.
Spiering louse
You also walk through a rough willow forest that grows on an accretion of land outside the dikes. In this swampy area you have beautiful views over the water of the river Nieuwe Merwede. At the end of your walk you can admire the old Spieringsluis. In 2000, this lock was the first in the Netherlands to have sluice gates made of fibre-reinforced plastic.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
